Huge success for Wimborne’s town trails
Organisers said the monthly trails have been a joyful way for people to discover the area differently.
Created for Wimborne Town of Culture 2026, the town’s themed trails have been hailed a success by Planet Wimborne, Wimborne BID and Wimborne Minster Town Council.
Since January, people of all ages have taken part in the free monthly trails, downloading maps, discovering new corners of the town and supporting local businesses and community groups along the way. Several trails remain available for anyone who missed them – and more are planned as the Town of Culture year continues.
The year began with January’s Music Trail, a lively walking route celebrating Wimborne’s musicians, venues and musical heritage. February followed with the colourful Pre-Loved Rainbow Trail, guiding shoppers to the town’s second-hand and charity shops and championing sustainable fashion choices.
March brought the Historic Town Trail, shining a spotlight on the people, buildings and stories that shaped Wimborne’s past. In April, the town buzzed with excitement for the Bee Trail, which introduced walkers to 15 bee homes installed across schools, churches, businesses and attractions – each one a tiny haven for solitary bees.
May’s Literary Festival Trail was a special, time-limited feature for the Wimborne Literary Festival, with shops displaying posters of books showcased during the event.
Several trails remain available for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the year.
The Wimborne Minster Tree Trail celebrates the Jubilee trees planted as part of the Queen’s Canopy. Wimborne Greenspace Trail is a celebration of the town’s publicly accessible green spaces, highlighting their importance for recreation, wellbeing and wildlife.
September had a food focus to tie into the Wimborne Food Festival, encouraging people to explore the wealth of food and drink producers in the town. This month celebrates Planet Wimborne’s Green Festival taking place from 10-18 October with the theme of ‘Be in Nature, Be Creative, Be Well.’
Planet Wimborne spokesperson Linda Bunting said: “The trails have been a joyful way for people to discover Wimborne differently – whether through music, nature, heritage or sustainable living.
“Working with the BID and so many local partners has shown just how much creativity and community pride there is in our town. And we’re not done yet – there are more trails on the way, and we can’t wait to share them.”
Fiona Pawsey, chairperson of Wimborne BID, said: “Partnership working is at the heart of what we do, so we were thrilled to be involved in the trails project alongside Planet Wimborne and Wimborne Minster Town Council. It’s a brilliant way to encourage people to explore Wimborne, discover hidden gems and spend time in the town.”
All except the event specific trails will live on after the Town of Culture as a legacy and all downloadable maps and trail details remain available at https://tinyurl.com/PWtrails.
