Major play area upgrades in Bournemouth and Poole
Major work has started at Hamworthy Park, Muscliff, Green Road and Churchill Gardens to upgrade the play areas.
With designs inspired by local children, young people and families, works to upgrade four more play areas in Bournemouth and Poole are now underway.
At Hamworthy Park, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole (BCP) Council has worked closely alongside Diverse Abilities to create an inclusive and accessible play offering.
Muscliff will see new swings, slides, seesaws and sensory play features while at Green Road there’s a focus on celebrating the area’s maritime heritage through new swings, climbing equipment, and agility trails.
At Churchill Gardens, four new pieces of play equipment are being installed.
Cllr Sandra Moore, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for play strategy, said: “It is brilliant to see work underway at these sites – continuing what has been an incredibly busy few months for our Plan for Play team.”
Funding for the upgrades stems from developer contributions and was originally approved by Councillors in December 2024 as part of BCP Council’s Plan for Play strategy: delivering improvements and repairs to around 100 play areas – including nearly 20 major refurbishments.
Full refurbishment has already been completed at Treasure Island, Bourne Valley, Mallard Road Queen’s Park, whilst substantial upgrades are nearing completion at Noyce Gardens, Kings Park, and Hatchards Field.
Alongside these larger sites, a significant programme of new equipment installation and repairs is continuing across dozens of play areas – including Slades Farm, Oakdale, and Mandale Road.
