Ukraine Relief receives award from mayor of Bournemouth
The team at a charity raising aid and support for Ukraine received special recognition from the mayor of Bournemouth at an event in February.

The third anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine occurred on 24 February. The following day on 25 February, a group of volunteers commemorated not only the start of the conflict but three years of work by Ukraine Relief, a Bournemouth-based charity dedicated to sending aid and support to the war-torn country.
Over the past three years, Ukraine Relief has: delivered over 5,000 tonnes of aid to Ukraine; helped to rebuild schools and supported hospitals, shelters, and orphanages; provided logistics assistance to other organisations, including the UN; supported animal shelters and vulnerable communities; and delivered ambulances in partnership with British-Ukrainian Aid.
The group held a special celebration on 25 February and were joined by volunteers, trustees, donors, sponsors, and partner, as well as special guests including Mayor of Bournemouth, Cllr George Farquhar.
The mayor gave a heartfelt speech and presented the charity’s CEO and founder Karol Swiacki, his partner Daria Swiack and their daughters with a special Mayor’s Award of Bournemouth.
Writing on social media, the mayor said: “It was an honour, albeit a bittersweet one, to attend the commemoration at Ukraine Relief marking the third anniversary of the full invasion by Russian armed forces.
“I say bittersweet since such a commemoration is needed due to three years of death, pain, loss and destruction wreaked to the Ukrainian people, nation and sovereignty caused by on-going Russian aggression.
“But it is right and proper to recognise the efforts of volunteers and partners at Ukraine Relief over [the past three] years.
“So it was with great pride, respect and gratitude that I had as The Mayor of Bournemouth an opportunity to offer my own personal recognition and thanks to all the volunteers, donations, enthusiasm and time given over the last three years.
“It was fabulous event and a testimony to the leadership of Karol and Daria that the support is and remains so strong and so effective.”
