Wimborne Minster uplifted by Town of Culture festival
There was a lot of energy in the town and a variety of activities for young people to enjoy as part of UPLIFT 2026.
Young people were able to enjoy a wide variety of activities at a series of events held in April as part of Wimborne Minster Town of Culture 2026.
The success of UPLIFT 2026 was rooted in collaboration with the community. Organisers worked alongside dedicated teachers, headteachers, children at Wimborne First School and Wimborne Minster Town Council’s Youth Council.
Shop windows became professional galleries and the Square a high-octane music stage.
A young artist, Eliana, exhibited at Walford Mill and said she really appreciated being part of a professional event where she was treated as an equal among peers.
The Art Trail turned the town into a living museum, and The Square became a pop-up music stage for the next generation of sound.
The workshop programme brought a hands-on dimension to the festival.
The energy carried right through to Sunday’s Festival of Sports & Active Leisure, with events including the climbing wall and kayaking.
A spokesman from Wimborne Minster Town Council said: “UPLIFT 2026 was a collaborative feat. To our workshop hosts at Wimborne Community Centre, the Minster, and the Library; to the venues and businesses who hosted the art trail: Cloisters, Woodsies in Wimborne and Museum of East Dorset; to Walford Mill for hosting young makers within their professional market; to every teacher who went the extra mile; and every young person who trusted us with their vision — thank you.”
