Wimborne theatre group invites residents to join its next show
Wimborne Community Theatre will stage a new site-specific production on the Kingston Lacy estate in September.
From 21–27 September, Wimborne Community Theatre (WCT) will stage a new inclusive, site-specific community theatre production on a rarely visited part of the Kingston Lacy estate, and creative locals have the chance to take part.
The ‘Home’ show will be a landmark project within Wimborne Minister’s programme as Dorset Town of Culture 2026.
The show is being devised by WCT members working with professional theatre practitioners and writers to create something imaginative, exciting and shared by the community. It will combine research into people’s own stories of home life and what they like about Wimborne as a hometown (or not) with local history, both real and imagined.
‘Home’ is looking for emerging professional theatre artists (either performers or backstage crew), as well as amateur actors seeking something new or different, and local makers and stitchers – in short, anyone wanting to feel part of a friendly but challenging community ensemble.
The show is being directed by Merley-based professional creative Rohan Gotobed, the artistic director of Dorsetborn, which creates original drama across the South West.
WCT is hosting a practical workshop on 20 May, as a first step for anyone wishing to take part in the show. If you join the group then, you will get the chance to participate for free in an residential weekend course on 29 and 30 May with the nationally and internationally acclaimed theatre company Wildworks on how to make exciting theatre in the landscape. Wildworks is working with WCT on ‘Home’.
Yearly membership for the company costs £40 for adults and £25 for concessions. Other concessions are available for people on low incomes.
