Clean streets for Broadstone

Members of Broadstone First School’s school council decided that for the end of term they would help clean up the local environment.

Under the guidance of teachers Laura Hewett and Andy Long, the youngsters – from Year 1 to Year 4 – were armed with litter pickers, gloves and bags.

Wearing hi-vis vests, they walked around the streets near the school and removed as much litter as possible.

Hewett said: “As members of the school council, they make decisions about what to do within the school.

“We are always keen to inspire the children to do things for their community, and we teach them about pollution.

“It was a hot day but they all worked hard to clean as much litter as they could and they filled a number of bags.

“We are hoping that it is something we will do more regularly.”
