Dorset MP Vikki Slade calls for urgent green energy initiatives
The local politician argues the initiatives will bring jobs and cleaner energy to Dorset
Vikki Slade MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole has called for the government to appoint a ministerial advocate for the South West in energy security.
The Liberal Democrat MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole wants to see urgent green energy initiatives bring jobs and cleaner energy to Dorset and states that it is a huge environmental and economic opportunity for the county.
Speaking in Parliament, she said that Dorset has been recognised as a “medium-term opportunity” for green energy initiatives, but pointed out that the development of them is likely to be over a decade away.
Slade called this out as a “missed opportunity that delays Dorset’s potential” and has called for the government to consider appointing a ministerial advocate for the area, focused on energy security.
She said: “Net Zero industries are already delivering higher wages than average and 50 per cent greater productivity than the UK average. It would be a huge environmental and economic opportunity for our area.
“Dorset has the potential to lead the way in green energy. We should seize that opportunity now, not delay it for another decade.”
