High Contrast Cinema brings Casablanca to Wimborne

A trio of classic Bogart films plays at the Allendale Centre over autumn.

High Contrast Cinema, a volunteer-run community cinema based at the Allendale Centre, has a new season of screenings.

Visitors can enjoy one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons in Bogart: Crime, Chaos and Casablanca – a three-film season exploring the grit, romance and moral complexity that shaped Humphrey Bogart’s remarkable career.

The season begins on Friday 2 October with The Roaring Twenties (1939), Raoul Walsh’s portrait of Prohibition-era America, featuring Bogart in a chilling early role alongside James Cagney.

On Friday 6 November, audiences can experience In a Lonely Place (1950), Nicholas Ray’s haunting noir in which Bogart delivers one of his most acclaimed and unsettling performances.

The season concludes on Friday 4 December with an extra-special screening of Casablanca (1942), the timeless wartime romance that cemented Bogart’s place in cinema history and remains one of Hollywood’s most beloved classics.

To add an extra touch of magic to the evening, audiences are invited to get into the spirit of the era with 1940s-inspired attire, whether that’s a full period costume or simply a Bogey-style fedora.

Matt Clark of the High Contrast team says: “Each season provides us with an opportunity to bring people together around vintage films that still feel alive on the big screen, and we’re especially excited by this one.”

The project continues its mission to celebrate classic cinema on the big screen, bringing vintage films to local audiences in a welcoming and communal setting.
