Mayor and town crier competition for young people in Wimborne
A competition to find the civic winners will take place at Wimborne Model Town on Saturday 4 July at 2pm.
Young people in Wimborne have the chance to become a mayor or a town crier.
A competition for juniors to take on those roles is being held at Wimborne Model Town on Saturday 4 July at 2pm.
It will offer a unique opportunity for children and young people to develop their public speaking skills, build confidence and become involved in Wimborne Minster’s proud civic traditions.
The Junior Town Crier Competition is open to young people aged six to 14 years. Participants will be provided with a town cry and judged on their delivery, enthusiasm, clarity and volume.
The Junior Mayor Competition is open to young people aged nine to 18 years. Competitors will prepare and deliver their own speech on the theme: ‘My ideas to make Wimborne Minster a better place’. Judges will be looking for creativity, confidence and a genuine passion for the local community.
The Mayor of Wimborne Minster, Cllr Jeff Hart, said: “The Junior Mayor and Junior Town Crier competitions are a wonderful way to encourage young people to become involved in their community, develop valuable communication skills and gain confidence. We are looking forward to hearing some fantastic ideas and seeing the next generation of civic ambassadors take to the stage.”
