Silver anniversary for Moors Valley Railway

Moors Valley Country Park and Forest is celebrating 40 years of its miniature steam train this weekend.

Moors Valley Country Park and Forest is inviting to people a special Gala Weekend this Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July to celebrate 40 years of the Moors Valley Railway.

First opened in 1986, the railway has delighted generations of visitors with narrow-gauge steam trains travelling through the country park’s beautiful surroundings. This special anniversary event will bring together locomotives, heritage rail experiences and family-friendly activities to mark four decades of railway history.

The weekend event is set to include:

Up to 13 steam locomotives in action
Special named services including the New Forester, Dorset Flyer and Shuttle trains
Demonstration freight trains showcasing working railway operations
A daily Parade of Engines at 4.30pm
A display of locomotives in the Kingsmere carriage shed
The Tucktonian, featuring the original coaches built by Railway founder Jim Haylock in the 1970s.

Visitors who purchase a Gala Rover ticket can take part in the Loco Challenge, travelling behind every participating locomotive to earn a special prize.

There will also be the opportunity to vote for your favourite locomotive in the Best Prepared Engine competition.

The Kingsmere Station shop will be open for souvenirs and gifts, while the Lakeside Station will offer refreshments, snacks and ice creams.
