The ‘Tartan Army’ to play at Tivoli

Even if the pop songs Bye Bye Baby and Shang-a-Lang don’t ring immediate bells with you, Stuart Wood, one of the original members of the Bay City Rollers says everyone will have a fun evening at their concert at the Tivoli on Friday 13 November.

The ‘Keep On Rollin’ tour, which includes many dates in the UK as well as in Ireland and Germany, will continue until next year.

Stuart, who joined the tartan teen band in 1973, says audiences get a nostalgic trip down memory lane as they perform all their timeless classics and more in an action-packed show.

He said: “The band has been going since the 70s but we have had our quiet spells. We didn’t break up.”
He recalled that in the early days they received a hysterical reaction from fans.

“We stopped recording in 1981 and were dormant until a reunion in 1985. And then we played in festivals.”

Although many of their audiences are comprised of people who remember them from their heyday, Stuart says that they get younger people too as original fans bring along their children and grandchildren.

“The youngest we had was five years of age,” he said.

Stuart, who is known as Woody, released an autobiography entitled ‘Mania’ last summer, which is proving to be very popular, giving a true and accurate reflection of his life to date and the trials and tribulations of Rollermania.

Last summer the band released a new single for the Bay City Rollers musical called ‘Rollers Forever’, which is Woody’s love letter thanking the fans for their support over the years.

In 2024 the band, which has sold more than 300 million albums worldwide, released its first studio album since the late 1970s called ‘Keep On Rollin’.’

The Bay City Rollers returned to the charts and the UK’s top 20 with their release of Shang-a-lang 50 in June 2024, marking 50 years since the original release.

“We sell records in Japan, Australia and the USA. They are popular songs and we’ve never tried to be anything else,” said Woody.

So get out your tartan-trimmed clothes and scarves and prepare to welcome ‘the Tartan Army’.
