Tie a yellow ribbon for Poole hospice
The Forest Holme Tie a Yellow Ribbon memorial event is open to all and takes place on Saturday 13 June in Poole Park.
A member of Forest Holme staff has a very special reason for attending the Poole hospice’s Tie a Yellow Ribbon memorial event in Poole Park on Saturday 13 June.
Alisa Malhi’s aunt was cared for by the hospice, and the support her family received during that time has stayed with her ever since.
The free community event, which is once again sponsored by MSP Capital, takes place between 12noon and 3pm and is open to everyone, whether or not they have a connection to Forest Holme. It offers a chance to come together in remembrance, reflect, and celebrate the lives of loved ones by writing personal dedications and tying a yellow ribbon in their memory.
Alisa said: “Being part of Forest Holme now means so much to me, not only as a nurse but as someone whose family has experienced that care first-hand. The kindness, dignity and support my aunt received made a difficult time more bearable for all of us. Events like Tie a Yellow Ribbon give families a space to remember, to feel close to those they have lost, and to know they are not alone.
“For my family, it is a way of continuing that connection, of honouring my aunt’s life and everything she meant to us. It’s a simple gesture, but it carries so much love.”
Alongside the opportunity to remember loved ones, visitors can enjoy local craft stalls, refreshments and free children’s activities, as well as performances from local choirs led by Tim Dowland.
After the event, the ribbons will be placed in the hospice garden, remaining as a tribute throughout the summer months.
Claire Cooper, Fundraiser at Forest Holme Hospice Charity, said: “This event is always very special, but hearing stories like Alisa’s reminds us why it matters so much. It’s about giving people a place to pause, remember and feel supported within their community. Whether someone has a connection to the hospice or not, everyone is welcome to be part of the day.”
For those unable to attend in person, dedications can still be made and ribbons tied on their behalf by the hospice team.
