Wareham’s Mark Baggs wins heaviest marrow prize at Giant Vegetable Championship

A previous winner at the contest and world record holder, Wareham’s Mark Baggs scooped both first and second prize in the heaviest marrow category of the National Giant Vegetable Championship, held at the Malvern Autumn Show.

Weighing in at 107kg for the top prize and 96kg for second, the mighty marrows dominated the category with the third-place marrow from Walsall only reaching 56kg. Baggs has been winning awards since at least 2013, across pumpkins, marrows and other giant veg.

The Malvern Autumn Show hosts giant veg show and is keen contested among growers around the UK. Seven world records were set at this year’s event, featuring a 7.8 kilo sunflower head and near 6-metre cucumber plant.
