Supersize Choir to Play Poole

Local school choirs to join in an in-the-round mega-concert, Supersize Polyphony 3: Venetian Blinders!

If you’re familiar with Rockin’ 1000, the massive touring band that delivers oversize arena covers concerts, the idea of a super choir should similarly tickle your ear drums.

Playing Lighthouse Poole on 1 October, the Armonico Consort brings its Supersize Polyphony 3: Venetian Blinders! show, performed in surround sound with the audience in the centre.

The performances involve local guest choirs, and school choirs nurtured through Armonico’s ground-breaking Choir Creation scheme. The Lighthouse show will see 140 children from Elm Academy, Ocean Academy Poole, St Luke’s CE Primary School and Bournemouth Symphony Youth Chorus join in along with Bournemouth Symphony Chorus.

The impressive concert format envelops the audience in a surround-sound-effect of voices singing glorious large-scale Baroque and Renaissance music in up to 40 individual parts.

With a focus on Venice and its magnetic influence on European composers of the day, the concert includes extracts from Monteverdi’s Vespers alongside a rarity by Catalan Francisco Valls and Thomas Tallis’s spectacular Spem in Alium. Lamentations and the premiere of Stella Maris by David Buckley are similarly inspired by the multi-choral tradition.
