Wimborne’s Mila wins again

Wimborne Athletic Club’s Mila Desborough was again in fine form at the UK Age Groups Championships held at Bedford on the weekend of 25 and 26 July.

She broke the javelin record for her age group with a winning throw of 47m40. Elliott Trickey was sixth in the under 16 triple jump with 12m86.

Mila also retained her title in the South West Inter Counties Championships at Exeter the previous weekend with 41m17. Elliott won the triple jump with 12m43. Maisie Robbins has had an exceptional competitive year sometimes winning all three of her league events. At Exeter she won the high jump with 1m40 and the shot with a personal best 9m36. Tilly Pretty won the under 14 girls discus with a personal best 25m56 and Lila Richards did what she does best winning the under 14 girls long jump with 4m97.

There were also bronze medals for Zac Johnson in the under 14 boys hammer 29m96 and for Olivia Eves with 4.56.88 in the under 16 1500 metres.

Lumen Myers of Poole Athletic Club came second to Mila and was third in the UK Age Groups event. It is unusual to have two athletes from a small county like Dorset competing and succeeding at such a high level.
