70 runners mark 70 years for Dorset charity
Dozens of runners took part in Run Bournemouth to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s disability charity. To mark the occasion, dedicated runners took part in Run Bournemouth in October.
70 Runners for 70 Years marked a significant milestone in Diverse Abilities’ journey — from its founding in 1955 by Phyllis Edwards and a group of determined parents, to its current role as a lifeline for thousands through services like Langside School, respite care, supported living, and family support.
Francesca Potton, community fundraiser at Diverse Abilities, said: “We are thrilled to see so many people take part in a Run Bournemouth event for our 70th birthday. Whatever distance they ran, from the junior runs all the way up to the half marathon, every step taken and every pound raised helps us continue supporting those who need us most. It’s a powerful reminder of what community can achieve.”
The charity invites anyone inspired by the runners to join future challenges or create their own, helping to ensure the charity continues to thrive for another 70 years.
