IT recycling hub opens in Wimborne Minster
PCs, laptops, mobile phones and cables can now be dropped off at Allendale House for recycling at a new hub.
Unwanted domestic IT kit, such as PCs, laptops, mobile phones and cables can now be dropped off at Allendale House Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm at the new DonateIT hub in Wimborne Minster.
The charity is dedicated to refurbishing or recycling electrical items which are either sold or donated to charities. Wimborne’s Food Bank, for example, has benefited from a refurbished laptop.
All donated kit is wiped clean, ensuring no personal data remains. You can see what you can and cannot bring to Allendale House on the DonateIT website: https://donateit.co.uk/.
Previously, DonateIT ran two collections a year in association with the Minster Environment Group, one of the Planet Wimborne affiliated community groups. These proved to be extremely popular. At the Spring Green Tech amnesty held recently, 136 devices weighing 266kg were donated.
Simon Barfoot, trustee at DonateIT said: “This is great news as we have been looking for a drop off hub in Wimborne for some time. We know there is a great demand for our service and having somewhere to drop off items during the week is a major step forward.”
Sarah Evans, manager at East Dorset Heritage Trust which is housed in Allendale House, said: “We are delighted to become Wimborne’s DonateIT hub and look forward to seeing folk bring along their unwanted IT kit to us. We know these are going to a good home for reuse or recycling. We would just ask people to check what they can and cannot bring first by going to the DonateIT website.”
Linda Bunting, chairperson of Planet Wimborne said: “We are so grateful to Sarah and the team at EDHT for agreeing to become the DonateIT hub in the town. We have worked with Simon for many years and know DonateIt provides an excellent and vital role in finding new homes for redundant IT kit. You can also find refurbished IT kit to buy on https://www.blackmoreit.com/”.
