Ringwood pedal car race cancelled

The annual pedal car race around the streets of Ringwood was due to take place on 24 May.

Organisers for the British Pedal Car Grand Prix, an annual event where home-made pedal cars race around the streets of Ringwood, has been cancelled.

The race was due to take place on Sunday 24 May.

On Monday 13 April, the organisers announced the sad news that this year’s race would have to be postponed until next year.

According to the team behind the event, Ringwood & District Round Table, the race has had to be cancelled after “an unavoidable change to the event’s traditional date”.

The grand prix traditionally takes place on the second Sunday in July, but it was asked this year to move to the earlier date in May. This is because Ringwood Town Council is organising an event to mark the 800th anniversary of the town’s Royal Market Charter, which will take place on 12 July.

The organisers said: “While every effort was made to adapt, the revised schedule significantly impacted team availability.

“As a result, and due to a lack of entries for the new date, organisers have taken the difficult decision to postpone the 2026 event until next summer.”

Craig Adams, chairman of the event team, said: “This hasn’t been an easy decision. The Pedal Car Grand Prix is a highlight of the year for so many people in our community, but the change of date meant that many of our regular teams were unable to take part. Without the strong turnout the event deserves, we felt it was best to pause for this year.”

He added: “We’re incredibly proud of what this event represents, and we can’t wait to bring it back in 2027. If you’ve ever thought about entering a team, sponsoring, or getting involved behind the scenes, now is the perfect time to reach out and be part of something special.”
